What Are Cataracts Patient Stories FR ALCON PANOPTIX® IOL The Alcon PanOptix® IOL Provides Vision Correction at All Distances with Reduced Need for Glasses. Learn More Alcon PanOptix® is a next-generation intraocular lens (IOL) that reduces the need for glasses after cataract surgery and provides clear vision at all distances. Alcon PanOptix® lenses are designed to provide good vision in most day-to-day situations with reduced need for glasses, or contact lenses after cataract surgery. After your vision settles, Alcon PanOptix® lenses are designed to allow you to enjoy most of your daily activities without glasses, including reading a book, ordering from a menu, seeing clearly in the mirror, and wearing only non-prescription sunglasses. You may find wearing glasses further improves your vision for a few detailed tasks, which is common for any lens. Since it helps with all three distances Alcon PanOptix® IOL is called a “trifocal lens.” Alcon PanOptix® Lenses Can Enhance Your Lifestyle The Alcon PanOptix® IOL provide one of the latest advances in vision correction technology. Patients enjoy improved vision at all distances and increased spectacle independence for most day-to-day tasks soon after surgery. Near (40cm) Intermediate (66cm) Far (4m +) Alcon PanOptix® Lenses Address Both Cataracts and Presbyopia By improving vision across near, intermediate and far distances, Alcon PanOptix® lenses address presbyopia, also known as age-related farsightedness, which initially affects near vision. This lens is designed to address cataracts and presbyopia, improving overall vision and quality of life. What to Expect After Surgery For many patients, lasting vision and the confidence their sight will not undergo major changes following cataract surgery is just as important as removing their cataracts. Ask your eye surgeon how to care for your eyes after surgery, when you can return to your normal activities, and what to watch for (including signs that you should contact your surgeon). The amount of time it takes to adjust to new lenses after cataract surgery can vary by individual. You will have a follow-up appointment a day or two after your surgery. It is unlikely your vision will change significantly in the years following your cataract surgery. Have your vision and eye health tested: At least every 2 years if you are under 65 At least annually if you are 65 and over If you notice any changes in your vision As with any surgery, be sure to speak with your eye doctor about all of the risks associated with cataract surgery. Most Alcon PanOptix® Patients Quickly Adapt To Their New Vision With the design of multifocal lenses there are some trade offs between a range of vision and visual disturbances that you will need to consider. Visual disturbances such as glare, rings around lights, rays around light sources and reduced ability to distinguish between objects and their backgrounds, especially in dim lighting may be present versus a standard monofocal IOL. As a result, you may find it harder to see while driving at night or completing tasks in low lighting conditions such as at night or in fog, or in a dimly lit room after surgery as compared to before surgery. Over time, these symptoms will become less prominent months after surgery which many patients find they are able to handle overtime. Simulated images for illustration.
